DAY TWENTY ONE -- THIRTEENTH OF SEPTEMBER -- QUEENSTOWN

Although it was cold (7-8 degrees in the day), with four layers of clothing on we had a great day. Every now and then it might sprinkle a little but for the most part we remained cosy and dry. Must admit though my feet felt a little like ice blocks by the end of the day.

We started the day with a coffee and cake whilst we were waiting to go on the steamship a heritage ship (almost 110 years old) which took us on a 45 minute cruise of Lake WKtipu  and across to the Walter Peak High country farm  at the other side  of the lake. It was a beautiful afternoon, lots of animals to feed and see up close. Henry delighted in feeding them all!

Then the best afternoon tea/lunch...all home made and really tasty. The coffee was much appreciated too.

After the afternoon tea we went and saw a display of sheep herding with one of the beautiful dogs. I wondered at the lack of kelpies here but they use short haired border collies(who stare the sheep into submission) and hunt ways who have a bit more bark and bite! The tour guide was relaxed and very informative and the scenery breathtaking .

We returned on a three o'clock steamship warm enough to sit outside.

I didn't take my big camera today as I was afraid of it getting wet. The close ups then are not so good. It was certainly a day to remember. It is supposed to drop to below zero tonight so it will be interesting to look out the window in the morning and to see if there is more snow on the mountain top outside the window.
