DAYS 1 ANDTWO. 24TH AND 25TH OF AUGUST

DAY ONE: LEAVING AUSTRALIA AND ARRIVING AUCKLAND

Not a lot to be said about this...the word I would use and did so repeatedly is "horrendous".....long, long , long lines...standing forever...the flight the quickest part. Arrived Auckland and same...same. Luckily our transfer was waiting (we were really late)! Hotel Ramada is very comfortable...hot shower and comfy bed. Out for a quick dinner and then a well learnt sleep!

DAY TWO: AUCKLAND

An early start for me (8) with breakfast at the local pub. People here are very friendly and are out to help you negotiate the city.

A walk down to the wharfs where we were going to go on a walking tour....cancelled two years ago with Covid. LOL can't trust the internet! Cold pretty windy and showers all day so we started the day at the Maritime Museum. It houses exhibitions spanning New Zealand's maritime history. Really great displays and we really enjoyed it.

Still raining so after aa coffee we caught a cab down to the Auckland war Memorial Museum, Its collections concentrate on New Zealand's history, natural history and military history. When you sit and look at the names of the dead soldiers you are really made aware of the futility of war!

These two museums were a lot to take in for one day but so worth it! We returned by taxi exhausted and rested (snored) until we managed to rouse ourselves and make our way to a boutique brewery nearby for a beer and a very welcome meal.
