DAY FOUR - 27TH AUGUST - AUCKLAND - WAIHEKE ISLAND
A lovely sunny day today and we headed off early to catch the 9 a.m ferry to Waiheke Island, about a 45 minute trip from Auckland. The Island is famous for its over 30 vineyards (perfect soils and climate for viticulture).
A hop on hop off bus provided our transport and we had a great day exploring the island.
The bus driver was very informative about the island. First stop was at the village of Oneroa, a beautiful view from the cafe where we enjoyed our first coffee of the day.
Then across the island along the narrow roads to Onetangi beach. We spent an hour there and walked along the beach. so many shells!
Our final stop was at Mudbrick vineyard and restaurant. Beautiful food, views and so relaxing. We decided to go to this vineyard partly on the recommendation of a local we had met at the ferry terminal. A very good choice!
